CLAY MACHINE PLAIN TILED ROOF, EAST GRINSTEAD
This job was for domestic client in east Grinstead, This was an extension onto the main property.
We had to strip the existing tiles, felt and batten. We assessed all roof timbers just to make sure structurally sound.
We installed a 20mm over facia vent to allow air flow into the loft space to prevent condensation ‘sweating’. We then felt and battened the existing roof and extension using a high-performance breathable membrane and dried blue treated battens. These are fixed with 63mm ring shanked passload nails.
We layed in the machine made clay tiles and fixed with 40mm alley nails. Installed and cut valleys and bonnet hips. Each bonnet hip are set in a 3 and 1 sand and cement mix, fixed with 100mm slab nails and we also double nail perimeters and every 5th course of the roof to aid against high winds.
All hips and verges were set in a 3 and 1 black sand and cement mix. This created the customers desired effect of the blank sand complementing the dark tile.
We also installed a dry ridge system, these are mechanically fixed with 100mm screws (which again aids against high winds) it acts in situe with the over facia vent to allow cross flow through your roof to stop condensation and allow the roof to breath.
With any roof that we undertake we will always run through option with the client to meet their expectation and follow all manufacturers installation guidelines.
